What Motily is

A habit app for the 74 days before conception.

Motily is an iPhone app for men who are trying to conceive, planning to, or who have had a semen analysis and want to act on it. It turns the lifestyle research on sperm health into a daily routine you can actually keep, and builds testing in: a home test at the start, your numbers against the WHO limits, and a retest on day 74.

Who it's for

Men aged 18 and over. Trying now, trying after a setback, going through fertility treatment alongside a clinic, or simply planning ahead. Partners get their own page without installing anything.

What it does

A two-minute daily check-in, a score for the day, a longer-term Motily score, streaks, next steps that show what each change is worth, and a 74-day journey with a mascot called Remy.

Testing built in

Start with an at-home sperm test, such as ExSeed's CE-marked kit, which you can order from inside the app (an affiliate link: Motily earns a commission), then log the numbers and see each one against the WHO reference limits. On day 74 Motily prompts a retest, so you can see what changed; the 74-day kit page sets out the two tests. If a result is below a limit, it points you to your GP first.

Every day

Three short tasks a day, then you're done.

Check in, play Myth or Fact, answer Today's question. Today shows one thing at a time, and an All done card when the day is finished.

  1. 1

    Check in on eight habits

How you slept, what you drank, whether the laptop sat on your lap. Each habit is a tap or two, Apple Health can prefill sleep and workouts, and Same as yesterday fills in the answers that haven't changed.

  2. 2

    Play today's Myth or Fact

Three statements about sperm health, unlocked by your check-in. Call each one myth or fact, then see the answer with a one-line explanation and its source. It takes under a minute, and you learn something real each day.

  3. 3

    Answer Today's question

One question a day about your own habits, also unlocked by your check-in, such as how often you have sex when you're trying to conceive. Your answer shows what the research links that habit to, with the number and the source behind it, and one thing to try where there is one. Every answer is kept in See all your findings, and the things to try feed Next steps on Home.

  4. 4

See your score and your next step

Today's Motily points climb as you log, and the habits with the strongest evidence carry the most weight. Your Motily score blends your baseline with your last seven days, and Next steps shows how many points each change would add. A streak builds, and Rest Days protect it when life happens.

The Motily Today tab on day 38: Today's question is next up, asking whether you know when your partner's fertile window is, with Myth or Fact (3 of 3 right) and today's check-in (98 Today's Motily points) already done
On the App Store

Rated 5.0 on the App Store.

Every rating on the UK App Store so far is five stars. Motily launched on 29 September 2026, and some of its early reviewers heard about it from its founder or his friends.

Finally a decent Fertility app for men

My partner and I have been trying for a while and I didn't know where to start on my side of things. Motily has made it so simple. I really like streaks and badges that give me a reason to come back, and it feels supportive rather than clinical…

hwl1000, App Store (UK),

Great for partners too

My husband got me to download this so i could see his progress via the partners page, and its so nice for both of us to feel like we’re in it together. Great app

HeebsF, App Store (UK),

Quick, Convenient and Effective

The interface is intuitive and accessible… The UI is well designed and there’s a social tab which facilitates goofy, friendly competition in a way reminiscent of gym and running apps.

LV_11037, App Store (UK),

Excellent idea !!

Downloaded Motily to support a mate and now I’m hooked… Remy the cartoon swimmer is a great touch, and the lab results explainer is a game changer.

LouisT777, App Store (UK),

Solid app

Works really smoothly - nice UI, easy to navigate, and makes it straightforward to keep on top of my habits.

OldtimerRick, App Store (UK),

10/10 would recommend

…Checking each day and seeing my score slowly tick up is a highlight of my day.

What you track

Eight habits, one honest picture.

Every category in Motily is there because research links it to sperm health. Where the evidence is mixed, the app says so. Read the science and the sources.

Sleep

Around 7 to 8 hours a night is the sweet spot. Too little and irregular sleep are both linked to lower testosterone and weaker sperm quality.

Substances

Alcohol, smoking and caffeine. Smoking is one of the most consistently confirmed factors, and heavy drinking is linked to poorer sperm quality.

Heat

Laptops on your lap, hot tubs, saunas, tight underwear. Extra heat around the testicles can temporarily lower sperm production, and it's reversible.

Exercise

Moderate and regular beats none or extreme. Aim for 25 to 45 minutes of moderate activity most days.

Nutrition

More whole, unprocessed food. Antioxidants, omega-3s, zinc, selenium and folate are the nutrients worth knowing about.

Mood & stress

Ongoing stress is linked to hormonal changes that can affect testosterone and sperm production over time. Small, repeatable resets help most.

Hydration

Semen is mostly water. Roughly 2 to 3 liters a day is a reasonable target, and the app is honest that this one rests on general guidance.

Intercourse

Newer research suggests ejaculating roughly every 1 to 2 days is linked to better sperm movement and healthier DNA than long gaps.

The 74-day journey

Why 74 days?

Because the sperm you'll have in two and a half months are being built right now, and habits change what gets built.

Sperm aren't kept in stock. They're made continuously in the testes through a process called spermatogenesis: stem cells divide to build up a supply, those cells go through a special kind of division that halves and reshuffles their genetic material, the results physically transform (growing a tail and compacting their DNA into a streamlined head), and finally they spend a couple of weeks in the epididymis learning to swim. The classic estimate for the whole process is about 74 days, so anything you change today, from cutting back on drinking to sleeping properly, takes roughly that long to show up in the sperm you actually produce. That's why Motily's journey is 74 days long, with each stretch tied to the habits that matter most while that stage is happening.

Sources on exact timing don't agree to the day, so the phases below are deliberately rough. Motily never shows you an exact day cutoff. The science page has the timeline and the sources.

Roughly the first two to three weeks

Division & multiplication

Stem cells in the testes divide repeatedly to build up the raw supply. This stage sets the volume for everything that follows.

Steady nutrition and good sleep support healthy cell division from the start.
Roughly the next three to four weeks

Reshaping into spermatids

Meiosis halves the chromosome count and reshuffles genetic material into smaller, genetically distinct cells.

Some research suggests this is a more sensitive window for oxidative stress: smoking, drinking and stress may matter more here.
Roughly the next few weeks

Taking shape

Each round spermatid grows a tail, compacts its DNA and sheds extra cytoplasm until it looks like a recognizable sperm cell.

Testicular temperature plays a real role while cells reshape, so avoiding excess heat is thought to count most here.
Roughly the final two weeks

Learning to swim

New sperm travel into the epididymis, where they gain the ability to swim and the readiness to fertilize an egg.

No dramatic transformation left, just steady maintenance. Consistency carries a good stretch all the way through.
A semen analysis report in Motily: semen volume, sperm concentration, total count and motility, each shown against the WHO reference limit
Semen analysis

Bring your lab report. Get context, not a verdict.

Add the numbers from a semen analysis (volume, concentration, total count, motility, and optional measures like morphology or DNA fragmentation) and Motily shows each one against the WHO 6th edition reference limits, then tracks how they move between reports. It's a reference range, never a diagnosis: interpreting a lab report is your clinician's job, and the app says so.

No report yet? Start with a home test. The at-home tests compared shows what each one measures, what it costs and where it ships, from a count-only strip to a full mail-in lab analysis.

Built to be honest

Supports and informs. Doesn't diagnose or promise.

Motily is a lifestyle tool, not a medical device. Your score is an estimate built from your habits, not a measure of your fertility. Where the evidence is preliminary, like hydration or epigenetics, the copy says "may" and "is linked to" rather than pretending certainty. If you've been trying for 12 months (or 6, if your partner is 35 or older), talk to a specialist. That's a proactive step, not a sign anything's wrong.

For partners and friends

A page for her. No install, no account.

Share a link and a 6-character code from Profile, and your partner gets a page that shows where you are in your 74 days, your streak, and whether today's check-in is done. She can send a nudge. She never sees your answers, your score or your reports, and either of you can disconnect at any time.

If she wants to, she can also share her fertile window, so it shows up on your Today tab when timing matters most. That part is Premium, and it's opt-in for both of you.

Prefer a mate to a partner? Pair with a friend as your Wingman and keep a shared streak: it counts the days you both logged, and one miss a week is forgiven automatically.

Who's building this

One person, in the UK.

Motily is built and run by a solo founder in the United Kingdom, not a studio or a clinic. That means replies to hello@motily.app come from the person who wrote the code, and it means the app is small enough to change quickly when the people using it say something's wrong.
